Era ID Help

I'm in the process of scanning my parents collection of photographs. They are all from England (Durham, Sussex, London area) and Switzerland (Uznach, Luzern, Lausanne). Most I can identify to the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

This one...I believe is my Grandmother in England, but I can't decide on a date. If it is my Grandmother, she looks much younger here than in the photos with my Dad which are from 1945 onward. From the clothes, I would *guess* early 1930s...probably before WWII.

Any insights?

  1. I'm with you. I looked at this picture and immediately thought thirties. I'm not sure if that is how your grandmother wore her hair normally, but I'd say that her hair, the style/height of her shoes, the widebrim hat and the silhouette of her frock say "30s" to me.

    Good luck! :)

  2. The only other photo I have online of her is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rue_/5796991007/ She's the lady on the far right with the crazy hair in the early 60s I would say. So. I don't really know if that's how she wore it normally in the 30s! I'd assume like that.

  3. The shoes seem a bit older, but I think the dress, hat, hair, spectacles suggest 1930s (earlier). :)
